ST. AGATHA CENTER

tel. 314-772-4491

Serving the poor in the area of South St. Louis

bounded by Pestalozzi-Gasconade from Jefferson to the river

Our mission statement is the basis of our service by providing both its spirit and goal.

“We, at St. Agatha Center, strive to address the material, educational and emotional needs of residents of the near South Side, mainly within the geographic boundaries of St. Agatha Parish.  Since we operate as a food pantry, our main focus is to provide food for those in need.  We also act as a resource for area residents by informing them of available social service agencies that can assist them with problems of health, education, employment and housing.”

The underlying philosophy/policy of the Center is two-fold:

  • To encourage and challenge clients to become more self-sufficient, contributing members of their families and neighborhoods,
  • To provide opportunities for the client to actively participate in activities that will enable them to affect positive change in their lives.

The Center tries to provide the following services as our personnel and resources allow:

  • Food, some paper products and toiletries not covered by food stamps,
  • Job resources, bus tickets or passes for getting to jobs/interviews/doctors,
  • Emergency assistance to get medicine,
  • Budgeting assistance and occasionally some utility assistance,
  • Fall educational program of 8 sessions,
  • Christmas adoption program,
  • Educational help: GED, literacy, tutoring,
  • Neighborhood advocacy,
  • Support of daily prayer by the Sisters.
